Gilding and Patination:  

A history of gilding along with its various methods of application and usage will be discussed.

Gilding will be taught both as a complete finish as well as a base for further decorative painting and techniques. Glaze colors come alive when there is a base of gleaming metal to reflect light.

Verdigris, aging, antiquing and crackling will also be learned.

Metallic powders and chemical agents will be employed to demonstrate the numerous applications of this stunning art form. Various kinds of leaf including shaibin, composition and real gold, aluminum leaf, copper, etc. will be used in this class. You will learn what bole is, what size to choose and all the basics of leafing with metal.

Class is suitable for beginners and intermediate students and is a prerequsite for advanced gilding classes.
