Decorative painting, wall glazing, venetian plaster and faux finish
instruction are offered at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
Our studio is one of the premier training schools in the North Eastern
U.S. for faux finish instruction and venetian plaster classes. Our
philosophy is hands-on instruction, not just demonstration. Finishes
are taught in stages where the student masters or at least has a
good understanding of the final result before continuing.
A faux finish or faux painting is a painted imitation of something
that occurs naturally. This is not sponging, ragging, smooshing,
bagging or any other faux painting technique where the tool mark
is left undisguised on a surface. Wall glazing is texturing a transluscent,
colored glaze with a tool and then removing any sign of the tool
or hand that applied it. We make a distinction between the two in
our classes. Intermediate classes are where you start to learn the
art of real faux finishing. This generally requires developing a
skill rather than just a technique and requires practise. We are
one of the few studios that insist a person must be qualified to
take advanced classes before they are allowed to sign up for them.
